I was told at the event that this occurred all across the country, but I had never seen it before — hydroplane racing. These are smaller versions of the hydroplanes sometimes shown on TV. I had my bigger zoom with me — this was shot at 300mm, f/5.6, 1/2000 sec. I did crop the image to clean it up a bit.

Whale off of San Juan Island
Shot at with a mere 135mm lens — that should tell you how close this whale was. F7.1, 1/400 sec, ISO 100. Very cool whale watching trip. The guide was great and the whales were cooperative.
Um, this should look like the pose I usually have when I lean on my motorcycle. Had to get one with the 3 wheeler moped on San Juan. Moderately edited (the person who took the picture had the camera slightly rotated).

I ran the Seattle Half Marathon today (13.1 miles). It was one of the toughest things I think I’ve ever done. I’ve been running 3-4 miles about 5 days a week for a while now, but decided to step it up and see if I could do something like this. My routine was to continue a 4 mile run about 3 times a week and then do a long run on the weekend. The goal? To finish.
And finish I did — no stopping or walking. I trudged the entire 13.1 miles with a finishing time of 2:43:31. No awards for that time, of course, but I felt like it was a pretty great accomplishment.
Probably the most unexpected part was the weather. It looked like it was all teed up to be rainy and miserable today, but to the contrary, it was really a great day to be out for a run.
Photos from Seattle Washington
Most everyone who knows me knows that I am leaving the Washington DC area and moving to the great Northwest — Seattle Washington. I had the opportunity recently to take a motorcycle ride through Whidbey Island and discovered that Deception Pass is a spectacular sight.
Obviously I didn’t take this picture but I figured I should include a recent photo.
This picture focuses in on the Deception Pass State Park. Minimal edits to the picture to lighten the trees. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 24mm focal length, 1/400 sec, f/10, iso 100. Really a spectacular photo.
One more from the town of Langley. Langley is a tiny town on the coast of Whidbey Island. I’m not sure what compelled me, but I walked out into the middle of the street and took this picture. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 110mm focal length, 1/250 sec, f/5.6, iso 100.
One more. Yes, it occasionally rains in Seattle. Afterwards, the rainbows look spectacular. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 24mm focal length, 1/125 sec, f/5.6, iso 100.
