Yakima Road Trip

Photos below from my Canon Digital Rebel. Canyon Road from Ellensburg to Yakima is just 28 miles of spectacular riding (the first two photos). The last photo is from White Pass, with Mt. Rainier in the background. Gotta love Washington.

Pictures from the Vancouver Aquarium

Following are two pictures taken at the Vancouver Aquarium, both taken with my Canon Digital Rebel. No alterations were made to either picture except to reduce the size.

fish (46k image)

The fish were shot at ISO 400, no flash, 1.3 second exposure at f/2.8 with a 24 mm focal length. Basically I held the camera up to the fish tank and turned on the auto timer. By doing this, I minimized any jitter and ended up with a pretty interesting picture.

cockroach (52k image)

The picture of the giant cockroach was produced in a similar fashion. There was a bit more light so the camara was set to ISO 100, no flash, 1 second exposure at f/4.5 with a 98 mm focal length. Obviously I zoomed in a bit to get this shot.

Photos from Seattle Washington

Most everyone who knows me knows that I am leaving the Washington DC area and moving to the great Northwest — Seattle Washington. I had the opportunity recently to take a motorcycle ride through Whidbey Island and discovered that Deception Pass is a spectacular sight.

Obviously I didn’t take this picture but I figured I should include a recent photo.

This picture focuses in on the Deception Pass State Park. Minimal edits to the picture to lighten the trees. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 24mm focal length, 1/400 sec, f/10, iso 100. Really a spectacular photo.

One more from the town of Langley. Langley is a tiny town on the coast of Whidbey Island. I’m not sure what compelled me, but I walked out into the middle of the street and took this picture. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 110mm focal length, 1/250 sec, f/5.6, iso 100.

One more. Yes, it occasionally rains in Seattle. Afterwards, the rainbows look spectacular. Shot from my Digital Rebel, 24mm focal length, 1/125 sec, f/5.6, iso 100.

Some Pictures from Ft. Lauderdale

The family recently took a small vacation to the Ft. Lauderdale area. I shot the following pictures in the Everglades at Sawgrass Recreational Park. These images were all shot at ISO 100 in Program mode on my Canon Digital Rebel. I used my usual Sigma 24-135 lens to do the work.

This first image was taken before boarding the airboat. It worked out to be 1/320 at f7.1. The meta-data says that the focal length was 108mm. I never really looked at that number too hard, but it’s interesting that it notes it.

This next image of an alligator catching some rays was also at 1/320s and f7.1, but a maximum zoom of 135mm.

This final image was taken at 1/30s at f3.5 with a focal length of 42mm. My hands must not have been shaking that much when the shutter fired.
